2006 Talk Like a Pirate Day

Aarrrgh!!!! Despite an absence of rum, the Tic Talkers Talk Like a Pirate Day meeting can be considered a success, as not a single mate was forced to walk the plank (though Cap'n Ed Beard did come close). Charley made the day by entertaining us all with his humourous speech entitled 'I Shaved my Ears for This!' Long John Demera will hopefully make better arrangements for refreshments at next year's meeting.

Last week, guest Fiona Haysom, from the Spirited Club in Halifax, impressed us all with her speaking skills and lovely accent. She even won a couple of trophies! Originally from South Africa, Fiona is attempting to earn three TM designations in one year (Triple Crown Award).
As yesterday's Jokemaster, Fiona managed to make Charley blush a couple of shades redder than Ruth's hair. No easy feat! Ruth was so flabbergasted she forgot to time an evaluation! Since we're such a mild-mannered, reserved club, it will likely take us some time to catch up with Fiona's more progressive... (more)

Congratulations to TIC Talkers Sergeant at Arms Juanita Shay on becoming our club's Toastmaster of the Year for 2005-2006. As our official 'greeter,' Juanita enthusiastically welcomes members and guests to our weekly meetings. She actively participates in meeting roles and last month became our newest CTM. Without a doubt, she is one Toastmaster who was 'Born to XL.'

Always one to bring dignity and flair to our induction ceremonies, outgoing VP Membership Keith Dexter ended his term with a bang by welcoming incoming Area 11 Governor Brenda Saunders/Todd as our newest member. Brenda's presence is sure to put a sparkle on our meetings. Her laughter is infectious and her banana bread is delicious! This will be the first time in TIC Talkers' history that we will have an area governor in our midst.

Congratulations to Charley Vaughan and Peter Freeman for doing such a fine job representing TIC Talkers at last Saturday's Area contest. Peter placed first in the Table Topics competition while Charley placed a close second in the International speech contest. Both members will go on to compete at the Division level on May 5th.

The evening was hosted by TIC Talkers and was a tremendous success, with approximately fifty toastmasters and guests in attendance. Contest chair Keith Dexter kept the audience engaged with his humorous quips while proceeding smoothly through the evening's busy... (more)

At the Area 11 Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest, Jim placed first in Evaluations while John placed second in the Humorous Speech department. Both went on to compete at the Division level where Jim once again placed first and John placed a strong 'fourth' (well... at least according to John). Best of luck to Jim as he moves on to the District 45 competition!
